Biography
A core member of the sought-after Area Movement crew, Day1 burst onto the local hip-hop scene in 2019 with his single ‘BOSS’, an ominous mix of gritty rap and slick R&B that won over the streets and the clubs. With its staccato hook and unapologetically DIY aesthetic, ‘BOSS’ put Day1 firmly on the national radar and has since snatched over 4M streams. Additionally, ‘BOSS’ cracked the top five spots on the Soundcloud charts, as well as hitting #20 Spotify Viral 50. This head-turning entry to the game has already made Day1 one of the country’s most noteworthy names in the country, and he’s kicked off 2020 by releasing ‘One Time’ alongside his longtime friend and collaborator, Davey. Taking a smoother and more melodic route than its predecessor, ‘One Time’ again displays Day1’s abilities to manoeuvre through the world of melodic rap with confidence.

Despite his short time in the limelight, Day1 has already appeared on an official remix of A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie single ‘Mood Swings’ with Youngn Lipz and Creed Tha Kid. Having grown up in both Perth and Brisbane, the Maori-Australian artist underwent a unique upbringing surrounded by different sounds, sights and cultures. Combined with his natural vocal talents and ear for infectious beats, Day1 is set to be one of Australia’s breakout stars in 2020.
