Biography
Sydney residing, Swazi South African native Temgazi (Nokuphiwa Ntshangase) grew up around music on both sides of her family and was introduced to entertainment early on. Having the late Joseph Shabalala, leader and founder of the Grammy award winning ‘Lady Smith Black Mambazo,’ as a grand father figure in her life while her father founded gospel group ‘Redemption’ alongside Kingdom Of Eswatini’s King Mswati 3rd’s wife, Queen Lambikiza.
Following in these footsteps Temgazi started her own singing groups as a child with her cousins where they would perform in church. Over the years this evolved into the establishment of her first girl group, Adira Belle. The quartet featured on Australia’s X Factor in 2013 making in into the Top 12.
In February 2018, her first solo track Favour was released on SoundCloud. The witty RnB single went on to receive radio play from Triple J and FBI radio without so much as distribution. She was then recognised by New York Label Tommy Boy Records who she signed a single deal with for song Bunsen Burner which became Temgazi’s first official single in 2018.
Debuting her first major stage at the sold-out Secret Garden Festival in 2018, Temgazi has since wooed world class stages and showcases such as Sydney Opera House and the Forum Theatre where she opened for Sampa The Great in 2022 and performed alongside South African superstars Musa Keys and Daliwonga. Temgazi was selected to showcase at Australia’s international music conferences Bigsound and EMC Live, a line-up curated by Triple J’s music director.
Temgazi has released a string of catchy singles since 2018 beginning with afro-fusion dancefloor favourite Talk That Talk, fiery Hip Hop anthem King Status which was accompanied by an eclectic music video directed by the renowned Ntombi Moyo. This was followed up by the touching gospel infused R&B composition Grateful, with which the video introduced her beautiful baby girl to the world.
Temgazi has kick-started 2023 with her new single and video I-WAY, a collaboration with Purpose and Saint Lane which featured as video of the week on Tone Deaf and Rolling Stone Australia upon release. As well as the announcement of Promiseland, a star-studded lineup where she will perform alongside the likes of Tems and Ms Lauryn Hill in October!
